One Way Road Driving Accident

College Student Dies in One-Way Road Accident

Earlier this week, a Coral Springs college student was killed on the Sawgrass Expressway when a driver who was traveling down the wrong side of the highway struck her car. According to a report by CBS Miami, a driver was heading east in the westbound lanes of the expressway when the car collided head on with another car containing two college students.

The college student in the passenger seat of the car was killed by the head on collision. Apparently, the car belonged to the girl who dies, but her friend was actually driving the car on this particular occasion.

The deceased girl’s family has called out to the State of Florida to better mark one-way roads to ensure that these types of accidents do not happen. In this case, they suggest that if there were more brightly colored signs, or tack strips on the road, the girl would still be alive.

Failure to Yield Accidents in Broward County

Traveling down a one-way street is just one type of what is more broadly known as a ‘failure to yield’ accident. A failure to yield accident occurs when one driver does not give the right of way to the driver who should legally have it.

While there are numerous ways that a drive may fail to yield the right of way, below are some common right of way situations:

  • Failing to yield when backing out of a driveway;
  • Traveling the wrong way down a one-way road;
  • Not stopping at stop signs long enough for the other cars to clear the intersection;
  • Running a red light;
  • Changing a lane without signaling;
  • Getting onto the freeway going the wrong direction.

In most cases, the most crucial question in failure to yield accidents is who had the right of way. The driver that had the right of way is generally not at fault because the other driver was supposed to yield to that driver.

In these cases, the innocent driver with the right of way is able to recover for property damage, medical bills, future medical expenses, and pain and suffering from the other driver.

Have You Been Injured in a Failure to Yield Accident?

If you have recently been injured in a failure to yield accident, you should contact an experienced attorney immediately. The longer an attorney has to work on your case, the stronger your case will be and the better your chances of recovering from the negligent driver.

To find out what rights you have, and to determine if there are any time restrictions in place, you should consult with an experienced accident attorney immediately. With an attorney’s assistance you will better be able to navigate the system and determine what course of action is best for you and your family.
