Deadly Hit and Run in Miami Leads to Criminal Charges

Earlier this month a deadly car accident struck in Miami at the intersection of Northwest 57th Avenue and 7th Street. According to reports, a 29-year old resident was on his way home from a night shift as a security guard. He was turning left onto Northwest 57th when another car slammed into his vehicle.

Unfortunately, the collision was significant, causing serious damage to the involved cars. Sadly, the 29-year old man attempting to make the turn was pronounced dead at the scene.

The second car was later identified as a black SUV that was speeding through the intersection. The second vehicle left the scene after the collision. However, with the help of witnesses who saw what happened, authorities were able to track down the driver. Arrest reports suggest that the SUV driver’s blood alcohol level was nearly twice the legal limit.

The SUV driver is now facing several criminal charges, including DUI manslaughter and leaving the scene of an accident with death. In his defense, the driver claims that he was not intoxicated but instead was simply trying to find his phone, leading to the accident. Video evidence from nearby red light cameras may prove crucial in the pending criminal matter.
