Truck Accident: Church Van Crash Kills One and Injures Fifteen More

Early Saturday morning at around 7:30 a.m., a church van from the Seventh Day Adventist Church crashed, killing a twenty year old man and injuring fifteen others. According to a story by USnews.com, the van was headed from Broward county to Tampa in a convoy with two other similar vans. While traveling west on I-75 near Corkscrew Road, the tread on the van’s rear tire separated and the driver of the van lost control. As the driver tried desperately to regain control of the van, it flipped over, sending several of its passengers flying. When the van stopped, it was completely upside down.

One 20-year old man dies from the injuries he sustained in the accident. Four others are currently in critical condition; another 11 suffered less serious injuries. The van contained a total of 16 passengers, ranging in age from 2 to 62. The other vans in the convoy were not involved in the accident.

Tire Blowouts Often Result in Rolled Cars

It is extremely dangerous to be in a car, truck, or van when one of the tires blows out. Generally, this will result in the loss of control of the vehicle and sometimes, a fatal accident like the one above. The more top heavy a vehicle is, the more likely it will flip when the driver loses control of the vehicle. Vehicles like SUVS, vans, and trucks are more susceptible to rollover type accidents because of their height.

Cars, While Less Likely To Roll Over, Have Their Own Faults

To avoid a top-heavy roll-prone vehicle, one might think a smaller car that is lower to the ground is a good alternative. While cars are less likely to roll over when the driver loses control, they are more likely to be damaged when in an accident. Sedans and other cars are often dwarfed by the myriad trucks, vans, and SUVs currently on the road.
